IGACOS PLACES EOC UNDER BLUE ALERT AFTER M7.8 EARTHQUAKE OFF SARANGANI
The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) has placed its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) underย BLUE ALERT STATUS, effective immediately, June 8, 2026. This directive was issued by City Mayor and CDRRMC Chairperson Hon. Lemuel T. Reyes in response to a Mw 7.8 tectonic earthquake that struck approximately 32 kilometers South 04ยฐ West of Maasim, Sarangani on 08 June 2026 at 07:37:41 AM.
Under the Blue Alert status, all CDRRMO personnel are instructed to remain on standby for possible deployment. The City Government is intensifying monitoring efforts and coordinating closely with all barangays for reports of damage and potential aftershocks.
Class Suspension Announcement
Due to the recent earthquake, classes at all levels, both public and private, are suspended today to allow for the inspection and assessment of school buildings and facilities and to ensure the safety of all learners, teachers, and school personnel.

Mayor Reyes Visits Nieves Villarica NHS After Earthquake
Mayor Lemuel T. Reyes conducted an on-site visit at Nieves Villarica National High School today following the recent earthquake to personally assess the situation in the school and ensure the safety and welfare of students and personnel.
The City Mayor has likewise directed the City Engineerโs Office to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all school buildings across the island to ensure their structural integrity and safety prior to the resumption of classes.
